Description

Averill Creek Vineyard is dedicated to producing honest wines that not only showcase the characteristics of their site and the vintage but also provide immense pleasure to wine enthusiasts. Founded by owner Andy Johnston, who pursued his passion for winemaking after a successful career in medicine and education, Averill Creek aims to craft world-class Pinot Noir wines in Canada. Nestled in the beautiful Cowichan Valley, their vineyard spans 30 acres on the side of Mount Prevost, benefitting from a moderate southeast facing slope and surrounded by old-growth forest.

The unique Royston-Qualicum soil composition of glacial stone, clay, and organic matter ensures excellent drainage and root penetration. Averill Creek embraces organic and biodynamic principles, adopting a permacultural and regenerative farming approach with a strong focus on soil health. Winemaker Brent Rowland employs minimal intervention during the winemaking process, allowing the vineyard's true expression to shine through.

The Cowichan Valley, dubbed Warm Land by the First Nations, offers a maritime-Mediterranean climate, resulting in wines with inherent elegance, texture, and refreshing qualities. Situated in the Somenos region of the Cowichan Valley, Averill Creek is committed to the sustainable preservation of the region and the pristine nature of its soils
