Brookhaven Animal Rescue League (BARL) is a dedicated non-profit organization that provides humane care for shelter animals and actively contributes to community activities that promote responsible pet ownership. As an all-volunteer group, BARL relies on donations from individuals and businesses, as well as various fundraising efforts, as it does not receive any government funding. In 2022 alone, BARL took in over 1,400 dogs and cats, diligently working to find them loving homes through adoption or by transporting them to other shelters.

BARL also provided financial assistance for the spay/neuter procedures of over 400 owned and community animals in the tri-county area. Established in 1981 and later obtaining its 501c3 status in 1982, BARL has grown from a limited-admission animal welfare group to encompassing Lincoln, Franklin, and Copiah counties. While BARL moved into its current facility in 2006 and hired a part-time staff person for daily cleaning, volunteers remain vital to BARL's success.

BARL's mission is not only to care for animals but also to reduce pet overpopulation, protect public health and safety, and foster the invaluable bond between humans and animals. With a team of dedicated board members, BARL strives to make a positive impact in the Brookhaven area and beyond
