Chrysalis Foundation is a leading organization dedicated to the safety, security, education, and economic empowerment of girls and women in our community. Since its establishment in 1989 by Louise Rosenfield Noun, Senator Elaine Szymoniak, and attorney Barbara Barrett, Chrysalis has been working tirelessly to address the challenges faced by females, particularly girls and women of color, single mothers, and those without education. Recognizing the lack of foundation funding specifically targeting girls and women, Chrysalis provides scholarships, emergency funds, and conference sponsorships to community organizations that focus on improving the quality of life for females in Greater Des Moines.

With an emphasis on research and evaluation, Chrysalis funds the most effective programs to ensure that girls become confident, strong, and resilient, women have equal rights and opportunities, and the success of girls and women is valued and supported by all. Thanks to an endowment by Louise Rosenfield Noun, every gift to Chrysalis reaches Polk, Warren, and Dallas Counties, guaranteeing that 100% of contributed dollars support the cause. Despite progress, women and girls in Iowa still face disparities, and Chrysalis believes that investing in them is key to reducing poverty, enhancing economic growth, and bringing fresh perspectives to the world.

Through initiatives like Chrysalis After-School programs, community grants, and scholarships, Chrysalis is making a lasting impact on the lives of 800 adolescent girls, over 13,000 individuals, and 42 young women transitioning to college. With over 30 years of experience, Chrysalis continues to train, coach, educate, and mentor partners and agencies to create a better future for girls and women.
