About
Description
CJYI, or the Community Justice for Youth Institute, is an organization dedicated to promoting and implementing restorative justice practices. Their mission is to build community capacity in resolving youth violence and conflict, supporting survivors of violence, and assisting families affected by violent crime. CJYI achieves this through comprehensive restorative justice training, technical assistance, and advocacy.
The organization is guided by core values such as building strong community relationships, engaging communities in restorative practices, advocating for youth access to resources, and responding to youth crime by addressing harm and meeting the needs of all parties involved. Founded in 2003, CJYI has been instrumental in creating RJ Hubs in seven communities in Chicago. They have also provided training and support for the Bridging the Divide initiative, promoting relationships and positive outcomes among police, youth, and communities.
Additionally, CJYI offers monthly peace circle keeper trainings and technical assistance for implementing restorative practices in various settings. CJYI has collaborated with national organizations and traveled internationally to share their community RJ models with interested parties. They are committed to expanding the reach of restorative justice and providing impactful alternatives in schools, communities, and the justice system.
