About
Description
Creating Alternatives is a grassroots, parent-driven brand that offers a day program for adults with developmental disabilities in the Greater Toronto Area. Their mission is to include individuals in a meaningful way into their community by providing opportunities for success in all aspects of life. The brand values belonging, community, full citizenship, choice, and respect.
Phyllis Santone, the founder, started the brand in the mid-1990s when she couldn't find a suitable day program for her daughter. She was determined to create a quality program where all abilities were recognized, and individuals could become active members of their community. Initially, the brand began with making and selling buttons but later shifted to making and selling chocolates.
The popularity of the chocolate program allowed Creating Alternatives to grow and accommodate the needs of the community. Today, Creating Alternatives offers a variety of programs, including day programs, adult continued education, fitness and nutrition, culinary skills, life skills, building relationships, community connections, arts and recreation, independent living program, brokerage, and respite care. They also provide employment opportunities and welcome volunteers and students.
To learn more about their programs and to place an order for their exquisite chocolate products, visit the Creating Alternatives website
