About
Description
Welcome to DANA Adobe & Cultural Center - a historic landmark, nature education center, cultural center, and gallery located about 25 miles south of San Luis Obispo. This center is dedicated to preserving California's Rancho Era history and engaging visitors with captivating stories, connecting them to the land, its resources, and fostering environmental stewardship and cultural understanding. The DANA Adobe, one of the earliest adobe dwellings in San Luis Obispo County, was home to William Goodwin Dana, his wife Maria Josefa Carrillo Dana, and their large family.
The nonprofit Dana Adobe Nipomo Amigos began in 1999 with the mission of saving the historic Dana Adobe and continues to rebuild the Rancho. Visitors can take a virtual Adobe tour or explore the hiking trails that span over a mile, including the Bird and Railroad Trails. The center also features the Cultural Center with exhibit space, a gift shop, DANA's office, and a commercial kitchen.
Don't miss the Pollinator Garden, which encourages the importance of pollination and welcomes natural pollinators like butterflies, hummingbirds, ants, and wasps. The Chumash Garden reflects the knowledge and practices of the Northern Chumash people, while the Kitchen Garden showcases an authentic mid-1800s Native-American planting method called the Three Sisters. Open daily, the DANA Adobe & Cultural Center offers a unique and enriching experience for visitors, connecting them to the rich history and natural beauty of the Rancho era
