Data. gov is the official open data website of the United States government. Its purpose is to provide public access to a wide range of datasets published by various federal agencies.

gov was created in response to the Presidential Memorandum on Transparency and Open Government issued in January 2009. The website is a collaborative effort between the U. S.

General Services Administration (GSA), the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), and other agency partners. Through the Data. gov catalog, agencies compile metadata including titles, descriptions, keywords, and links.
