About

Description

The Dyslexia Foundation, based in Boston, MA, is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to advancing knowledge, research, and support for individuals with dyslexia and other learning differences. Founded by William Baker, a dyslexic himself, the foundation aims to prove that dyslexia can be addressed through research, awareness, and effective teaching methods. With over 35 years of leadership, The Dyslexia Foundation has brought together more than 150 researchers from various disciplines to inspire new ideas, research projects, and programs.

The foundation organizes national and international conferences, scientific symposia, and small think-tank meetings to advance our understanding of dyslexia's causes, diagnosis, and treatment. These events have resulted in edited volumes, peer-reviewed journals, and valuable research that informs and influences dyslexia policies. The foundation also works closely with educators and allied health professionals, hosting one-day conferences to provide practical research-to-practice information.

Their commitment to sharing knowledge extends internationally, engaging researchers from different countries. The Dyslexia Foundation's dedication to dyslexia research and support makes it the first and foremost organization in the field. Under William Baker's guidance, the foundation has mentored countless researchers, supported careers, and contributed to the Board of the renowned Haskins Laboratories.

True to Baker's multifaceted nature, he embraced various hobbies, such as tennis, skiing, and crewing at the New Bedford Yacht Club. He was also an avid supporter of the Boston Red Sox. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Baker cherished his family dearly.

He treasured spending time with his wife, children, and granddaughter, eagerly anticipating the arrival of a grandson in 2023. In honor of his legacy, the family requests donations be made to The Dyslexia Foundation at yesread. org.

As per William Baker's wishes, there will be no funeral service. Instead, his family plans to hold a celebration in late spring or early summer of 2023 to honor his extraordinary life and contributions
