Food Is Free ABQ is a non-profit organization in Albuquerque that is dedicated to fighting food waste and advocating for food equity and access to fresh and nutritious food. They believe that fresh food is a human right and work towards reducing food waste by connecting the abundance of fresh food in the community to people in need. Their mission is to harness the abundance of fresh food within the community and distribute it throughout the city, keeping food as local as possible.

They harvest fresh food from Great Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Belen, and the areas in between. Through their efforts, they aim to ensure that everyone has access to fresh, healthy food. Food Is Free ABQ started in 2014 when two women, Erin and Trista, noticed an abundance of unused fruit trees in Albuquerque.

They arranged their first harvest, which yielded over 100 pounds of fruit. They realized the potential impact they could make and decided to create their own local chapter of the global Food is Free Project. The organization relies on volunteers, and initially, Erin and Trista's own children were the first to jump in and help.

Throughout their journey, the children have played an active role in Food Is Free ABQ. The organization's mission touches on various social issues, recognizing that food is power, and they aim to give that power back to the community. Food Is Free ABQ is committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of the community.
