About
Description
Fraser Valley Invasive Species Society (FVISS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to combatting the negative impact of invasive plants in the Fraser Valley Regional District. Our society consists of passionate volunteers from various backgrounds, including government agencies, NGOs, First Nations, naturalist clubs, industry, and the public. As part of a network of 17 regional invasive species councils in British Columbia, we collaborate closely with these councils and the Invasive Species Council of BC.
Our primary goals are to raise awareness, educate the public and government agencies about invasive species, and prevent further introductions and spread of these species through early detection and control measures. We advocate for coordinated and collaborative management of invasive species, working with agencies and land occupiers. Additionally, we strive to control and contain highly invasive non-native species.
We also serve as a valuable source of information and expertise on invasive species. Through our efforts, we aim to develop and maintain a comprehensive inventory of invasive species within our jurisdiction. Join us in our mission to protect our ecosystem and join our society to contribute towards invasive species management in the Fraser Valley.
