Gold Star Laces is a small family-run business based in New York NY, created by a parent who wanted to help her children learn how to tie their shoes. When COVID hit in early 2020, the family behind Gold Star Laces was severely impacted.

Seeking activities to keep busy and stay sane, they decided it was time to teach their six-year-old how to tie her shoes. However, they encountered the common struggle of telling her which lace to tuck or go around. This prompted a lightbulb moment: they needed a bi-colored shoelace.

Unable to find one, they took matters into their own hands and painted one half of a white lace purple. To their surprise, it worked!
