Greenwear is a brand that is committed to sustainable fashion and providing livelihood opportunities for rural women in India. They achieve this by working with cotton and silk yarns produced by rural women using Solar Charkhas, which are compact spinning ring frames that run on solar energy. These Solar Charkhas are four times more efficient than manual charkhas, and the women who operate them can continue with their domestic activities while spinning yarn.

Greenwear was established in March 2019 in association with Bhartiya Harit Khadi Gramodaya Sansthan, a certified society that implemented the Mission Solar Charkha pilot project for the Ministry of MSME. Greenwear procures the yarns produced by trained women and artisans, and manufactures fabric and garments, creating a regular source of income for these individuals. They are the sole buyer of solar charkha yarn on a large scale in India.

Greenwear also engages in weaving, tailoring, value addition through research and development, and aims to reduce pollution and carbon footprint in the textile industry. With a mission to create 5000 jobs for rural women by 2025, Greenwear is dedicated to making a positive impact on both livelihoods and the environment
