German Shepherd Rescue of Central Texas is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving German Shepherds and German Shepherd mixes from neglect, abuse, and premature death. Our mission is to provide these intelligent and sensitive beings with the opportunity to live the good life they deserve through rescue, adoption, referrals, and behavior counseling. Unlike traditional shelters, we operate as a foster home concept rescue, which means that all our dogs live in approved private foster homes that offer love, training, and nutrition.

We go above and beyond to ensure the well-being of our dogs. Each dog in our care receives the necessary medical attention, including spaying or neutering, microchipping, vaccinations, and preventive care. Our dedicated volunteers use their personal funds or rely on donations and adoption fees to purchase equipment and supplies for the dogs.

We primarily serve the Central Texas region, including Austin, San Antonio, Waco, Houston, and Dallas. While we cannot save every dog in need, for each dog that we find a loving home for, another life can be saved. Our dogs come from various backgrounds, including situations of abandonment, neglect, or unwanted litters.

We select dogs based on their temperament and adoptability, and they are treated as part of our own families until they find their forever homes.
