About
Description
Harriet's Dreams is a Black-led abolitionist community defense hub based in the Greater Washington area. Our mission is to center the lives of Black individuals most at risk for state-sanctioned violence. We are committed to dismantling oppressive systems and building alternatives through legal empowerment, political and civic education, organizing campaigns, mass protests, and community care.
Our pillars include Ella's Emancipators for political defense, Harriet's Responders for community defense, and Ida B. Free for legal defense. As prison abolitionists, we advocate for a world without prisons, policing, or any form of surveillance and incarceration.
We believe in the power of Black people taking action for their own liberation and justice, and we prioritize the voices and political lives of Black femmes, queer, and LGBTQIA+ individuals. We are guided by our ancestors and center holistic healing and transformative justice. Together, we work towards change by fostering transformational relationships, providing necessary accommodations, and ensuring transparency and accountability to the communities we serve.
