Hillsboro Independent School District (Hillsboro ISD) has a rich history dating back to 1853 when it started with just 160 students in one small school. Today, Hillsboro ISD has grown to 4-A status and provides excellent education to over 2,000 students across four regular campuses. From the first public school in Hillsboro, established in 1884, to the construction of Central School in 1886, Hillsboro ISD has consistently evolved to meet the needs of its students. The district also opened Peabody School in 1892 to serve African-American students. Hillsboro ISD's current campuses include Hillsboro Elementary School, Hillsboro Intermediate School, Hillsboro Junior High School, and Hillsboro High School.
