Huntsville-Madison County Public Library (HMCPL), founded in 1818, is the oldest public library system in Alabama. With 10 branches, a BookMobile, and Outreach services, we serve the entire Madison County community, including Huntsville, known as the Rocket City. Our collection boasts an impressive 1.
5 million items, circulating more than 3 million times each year. We offer a wide range of services, including online resources, computer training, a vast digital collection, public-use computers, free Wi-Fi, and meeting spaces. As a 21st-century library, HMCPL has evolved to meet the changing needs of our community.
We provide more than just books; we connect people with social services, STEM and arts programming, Makerspace studios, workforce development training, media literacy, and civic engagement initiatives. Our mission is to enrich the educational, recreational, and cultural lives of our patrons, fostering a lifelong love of learning. Under the leadership of our dedicated team, including Executive Director Cindy Hewitt, Deputy Director Connie Chow, and various board members, we strive to provide exceptional service and meet the growing demand for library services in our expanding community.
