Huntsville-Madison County Public Library (HMCPL), founded in 1818, is the oldest public library system in Alabama. With 10 branches, a BookMobile, and Outreach services, we serve the entire Madison County community, including Huntsville, known as the Rocket City. Our collection boasts an impressive 1.

5 million items, circulating more than 3 million times each year. We offer a wide range of services, including online resources, computer training, a vast digital collection, public-use computers, free Wi-Fi, and meeting spaces. As a 21st-century library, HMCPL has evolved to meet the changing needs of our community.

We provide more than just books; we connect people with social services, STEM and arts programming, Makerspace studios, workforce development training, media literacy, and civic engagement initiatives.
