Hole-in-the-Wall Education Project (HiWEP) is a pioneering brand that is revolutionizing the way we approach learning. Founded by Dr. Sugata Mitra, Chief Scientist at NIIT, HiWEP utilizes the innovative Minimally Invasive Education (MIE) methodology to ignite the spark of learning.

The journey began in 1999 when HiWEP introduced MIE in a slum in Kalkaji, New Delhi. Since then, the project has expanded to various rural locations across India and even reached Cambodia in 2004. In 2013, HiWEP was entrusted to NIIT Foundation, strengthening its commitment to inclusive development.

HiWEP has already implemented over 100 Hole-in-the-Wall Learning Stations in India through corporate social responsibility initiatives. By scaling up the Hole-in-the-Wall concept, HiWEP aims to make a significant impact on improving elementary education and life skills for children in disadvantaged communities, both in rural areas and urban slums.
