About

Description

The Holter Museum of Art, located in Helena, Montana, has been a cornerstone of the community since its opening in 1987. It offers a vibrant space for residents and visitors to engage with contemporary art in central Montana. Over the years, the museum has expanded significantly, thanks to a successful capital campaign in 2002, resulting in a dynamic 17,000 square foot facility.

At the Holter Museum of Art, the mission is clear: to inspire, connect, and heal the community through contemporary exhibitions and innovative arts programming. The museum aims to stimulate creativity, curiosity, and collaboration through visual arts, making the experience accessible to all. With five exhibition galleries, an education center, and a collections & research center, the Holter Museum of Art hosts between 15-20 rotating exhibitions each year.

In addition to exhibitions, the museum offers innovative art education for all ages, community-based events, artist residencies, lectures, receptions, and more. This comprehensive approach has solidified the Holter Museum of Art as one of the premier cultural centers in the region. Through its programming, the museum encourages community representation, promotes lifelong arts learning, and preserves the record of our time and place in history.

The vision of the Holter Museum of Art is to capture the imagination of patrons of all ages, fuel curiosity through diverse perspectives, and celebrate contemporary regional artists. To support its mission, the Holter Museum of Art has a dedicated staff team that facilitates the museum's operations and ensures a high-quality experience for visitors. From the executive director to the education director, each team member plays an integral role in the museum's success.

In recognition of its location on traditional Blackfoot, Salish Kootenai, and Shoshone territories, the Holter Museum of Art actively works to listen and respond to the needs and wants of Helena's tribal communities. The museum recognizes the importance of Indian Education for All and strives to represent Native voices within the contemporary arts world. For those interested in visiting the Holter Museum of Art, the museum offers free admission.

Operating hours are from Tuesday to Saturday, 10 am to 5:30 pm, and Sunday from 12 pm to 4 pm. The museum's address is 12 E. Lawrence St., Helena, MT 59601.
