About

Description

International Airlines Group (IAG) is a multinational airline holding company headquartered in London, United Kingdom. Formed in January 2011, IAG was created by the merger of British Airways Plc and Iberia Líneas Aéreas de España S. A.

British Airways, one of IAG's subsidiary airlines, has a rich history dating back to 1919 when it was founded as Aircraft Transport and Travel Limited, the world's first airline to transport only air mail. In 1935, it became British Airways Limited, and subsequently, British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) in 1940. BOAC later merged with British European Airways (BEA) in 1974 to form today's British Airways.

Iberia Airlines, another subsidiary of IAG, started operations in 1927. Over the years, it expanded globally and became Spain's flag carrier, connecting passengers to a vast network of destinations in Europe, Latin America, and Africa. IAG’s headquarters, Waterside, is located near London Heathrow Airport.

The company's main products and services include passenger and cargo transportation, premium travel experiences, and international airline operations. On a global scale, IAG has an extensive presence. Apart from British Airways and Iberia, it owns and operates several notable subsidiaries, including Aer Lingus, a leading Irish airline, and LEVEL, a low-cost long-haul carrier.

IAG also has joint ventures with other airlines, such as Japan Airlines, Qatar Airways, and American Airlines, allowing for expanded global connectivity and code-sharing agreements. These partnerships enable IAG to offer customers a wider range of destinations and seamless travel experiences. In terms of market position, IAG is one of the largest airline groups globally.

It operates in highly competitive markets, competing with other major airline alliances such as Star Alliance and SkyTeam. In recent years, IAG has emerged as a strong player in the international aviation industry, with significant global sales and a solid reputation for quality service. As for major events, in January 2015, IAG acquired Aer Lingus, further expanding its presence in the Irish market and strengthening its transatlantic operations.

In 2017, IAG launched LEVEL, a new low-cost long-haul airline, catering to leisure travelers. Currently, IAG is facing significant challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has severely impacted the global aviation industry. The company has taken various measures to mitigate the effects of the crisis, including cost-cutting initiatives, restructuring, and adapting its operations to the changing travel demand.

In conclusion, International Airlines Group (IAG) is a prominent airline holding company headquartered in the United Kingdom. With flagship carriers British Airways and Iberia, along with subsidiary airlines like Aer Lingus and LEVEL, IAG provides a vast network of passenger and cargo services worldwide. Despite the ongoing challenges, IAG continues to adapt and innovate to maintain its position as a leading global aviation player
