About

Description

IATSE, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts of the United States, Its Territories and Canada, is a renowned brand that represents over 150,000 highly skilled craftspeople. Their primary objective is to enhance the lives of entertainment workers and their families. With a rich history dating back to 1893, when stagehands from eleven cities gathered in New York to advocate for fair wages and working conditions, IATSE has evolved into a powerhouse in the entertainment industry.

Today, they cater to all facets of live theater, motion picture and television production, trade shows and exhibitions, television broadcasting, concerts, as well as equipment and construction shops that support these areas. Being 168,000 workers strong, IATSE covers a broad range of arts, media, and entertainment crafts. Their unwavering mission is to improve the lives of all entertainment professionals, both within and outside the workplace.

To achieve their objectives, IATSE has established a comprehensive structure, including local unions, districts, and their international body. The 360+ local unions, which operate autonomously, negotiate labor contracts, administer health and retirement funds, and provide training and education to members. The 13 districts coordinate activities among the locals, facilitate communication, and organize conventions for delegates to share interests, problems, and receive training.

Furthermore, the IATSE International provides support to the local unions and members by negotiating nationwide agreements, delivering craft, safety, and leadership education, advocating for pro-worker policies, and engaging directly in strategic organizing and collective bargaining campaigns. The International's General Executive Board, including the International President and General Secretary-Treasurer, has the authority to amend the Constitution and resolve appeals. IATSE has various departments and committees that cover stagecraft, motion picture and television production, tradeshow, Canadian affairs, broadcast, political/legislative, education, and more.

Their commitment to diversity, inclusion, and sustainability is evident through committees like Women's, Equity and Inclusion, Pride, and Green. For inquiries or official business, the IATSE General Office, West Coast Office, Canadian Office, and Western Canadian Office are available, each handling specific areas. Additionally, the Local Union Directory provides contact information for individual local unions.

With their extensive reach and dedication to improving the lives of entertainment workers, IATSE continues to be a key player in the industry, shaping fair working conditions and advocating for the rights of its members
