Indian Golf Union (IGU) is the premier authority for golf in India, dedicated to promoting and developing the sport across the country. Established on December 20, 1955, with the support of golf enthusiasts in Calcutta, Delhi, Mumbai, and Madras, IGU has grown from six golf clubs to now proudly representing 194 golf clubs, with many more in the pipeline. The primary objective of the union is to foster the game of golf in India and ensure its maintenance at the highest standards.

Before IGU's formation, the Royal Calcutta Golf Club (RCGC) was responsible for managing golf affairs in India since 1829. However, senior members of RCGC recognized the need for more tournaments in various centers, as well as the development of junior programs and international participation, which led to the creation of IGU. IGU has played a pivotal role in enhancing the game's popularity and accessibility in India.

It has introduced various initiatives, including training programs for assistant professionals and caddies under the guidance of renowned golf instructor George Willard and the establishment of the Inter Zonal championship. As the apex body for golf in India, IGU diligently works towards the promotion and development of the sport, ensuring that the rich legacy of Indian golf continues to flourish
