The Institute Library, founded in 1826, is Connecticut's oldest independent circulating library and one of the few remaining membership libraries in North America. Located in downtown New Haven, the library offers a serene atmosphere for quiet reading, along with a vast collection of up-to-date literature for members to borrow. The Institute Library also provides unique programming and enriching opportunities for members and the surrounding community to engage in literature, civil discourse, and the arts.
