JCIS, short for Japan Council of International Schools, is a prominent organization that promotes, supports, and nourishes top-quality English medium schools catering to the international community in Japan. Committed to an international educational framework, JCIS comprises twenty-seven independent international schools throughout Japan. Membership to JCIS is granted to schools that demonstrate stability, continuity, professionalism, and a strong dedication to internationalism, with English being the primary language of instruction.

JCIS member schools offer diverse curricula and educational philosophies, including programs from the International Baccalaureate Organization as well as national curricula. From comprehensive Kindergarten to Grade 12 education to specialized age-focused programs, the schools within JCIS range in size from less than 100 students to over 1,500. The heads of member schools convene twice a year, fostering communication and sharing valuable insights on various common interests, such as employment legislation, pandemic precautions, and resource providers.
