Description

The Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme (JET) is a unique initiative aimed at promoting grassroots internationalization in Japan. Established in 1987, the program, also known as 語学指導等を行う外国青年招致事業, invites young individuals from over 50 countries to contribute to international exchange and foreign language education in local communities across Japan. In collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR), JET participants are placed in local municipalities, educational boards, primary and secondary schools, as well as high schools.

Through their engagement in various international activities, JET participants create a global network and contribute to the development of their host communities. With over 77,000 participants from 78 countries, the program continues to grow and thrive, making a significant impact on local revitalization efforts
