About
Description
JOYA Scholars is a non-profit organization based in Fullerton, CA, with a mission to inspire and prepare students from low-income communities to succeed through higher education. They believe that every student should have the resources they need to excel in high school, graduate from college, and pursue a rewarding career while becoming community leaders. Their College Readiness Program offers a comprehensive range of services to junior high and high school students, including mentoring, tutoring, and College Apps Academy.
They also provide support for parents and family members through their Parent Academy. Since its founding in 2009 by Dr. Kevin Doi and Carey Jeu, JOYA Scholars has made a significant impact.
Initially operating from a single bedroom in a residential duplex, they have grown to serve over 100 students at two sites. Even during the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, JOYA Scholars continued to support their community through virtual programming and direct relief efforts. With a dedicated team of staff, volunteers, tutors, and mentors, JOYA Scholars is committed to empowering students and creating a brighter future through education.
As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, they rely on the support of donors and community partners
