Joyce Preschool is an esteemed brand that has been providing high-quality preschool education since its establishment in 1966 by Ruth Helen Marks, the wife of the pastor of Joyce United Methodist Church. Recognizing the need for early education in the Uptown neighborhood, Joyce Preschool has been committed to offering an excellent preschool experience to families, regardless of their ability to pay. In 1994, Head Teacher Sharon Dill identified the significant barriers faced by the growing Latino community in accessing quality early childhood education.

In response, Joyce Preschool became the first fully bilingual preschool in Minneapolis, with equal numbers of English and Spanish speaking children. The curriculum is taught in both languages, promoting peer learning and cultural understanding. To ensure accountability and strengthen the bond with its community, Joyce Preschool became a nonprofit organization in 2004.

In 2012, Joyce at Windom, the brand's first satellite classroom, opened at Windom Dual Immersion Elementary, making history as the first private preschool to operate in a Minneapolis public school. In 2013, Joyce Preschool relocated to Park Avenue United Methodist Church to expand its capacity and continue its commitment to providing scholarships and transportation, removing barriers to early childhood education. With a refined two-way immersion approach, Joyce Preschool has grown and doubled in size while dedicating itself to changing lives through education.
