Maureen Joy Charter School is a K-8 public charter school located in Durham, North Carolina. As one of the first charter schools in the state, we have been providing an excellent education for students since our founding in 1997. Our school is tuition-free and open to the public, with enrollment determined by an annual lottery.

Through high-quality instruction, school-community partnerships, and the promotion of a positive self-identity, we strive to create a nurturing and engaging learning environment. Our goal is to prepare our students for success academically, socially, and emotionally.

With our significant academic growth and achievement, there has been an increased demand for enrollment in recent years. To accommodate this, we moved into a beautiful, renovated historic building in East Durham in 2013. This move allows us to reach a larger population of children and provide a high-quality educational option for new families.
