About

Description

Karuna Nepal, supported by Karuna Foundation Netherlands, is dedicated to improving the lives of children with disabilities in Nepal. They have introduced the Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Program (DPRP) in Koshi Province, with plans to expand to other municipalities in the near future. The goals of the DPRP program are threefold: 1) to prevent physical and mental disabilities in newborns and schoolchildren, 2) to enhance the care and rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities, allowing them to reintegrate into their communities, and 3) to strengthen the local care system for sustainable, long-term impact.

Karuna Foundation Nepal provides training, advice, co-financing, and implementation support to the municipalities, with the expectation that they will continue the program independently after three years. The word Karuna means compassion in Sanskrit, and this forms the foundation of their mission to encourage compassion and action towards fellow humans.
