About

Description

Kansas City Community Gardens (KCCG) is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to helping people cultivate vegetable and fruit gardens in various locations such as backyards, schoolyards, vacant lots, and community sites. We offer a wide range of low-cost seed and plant varieties specifically chosen to thrive in the local Kansas City climate. In addition to providing affordable seeds and plants, we also offer free educational workshops, technical assistance, and other garden resources to help your garden and orchard thrive.

Our goal is to make gardening accessible and affordable for everyone, from individual gardeners to schools and community groups. By growing your own food, you can stretch your grocery budget and enjoy healthy, fresh produce. In 2022 alone, KCCG supported over 3,000 home gardeners, 315 community gardens, and 231 neighborhood orchards, making a significant impact on the local community.

We are also dedicated to inspiring children to make healthy choices by supporting 223 school gardens and 58 school orchards, engaging over 19,000 students. Our Beanstalk Children's Garden is a popular educational destination, welcoming nearly 3,800 visitors for tours and scout badge workshops. At KCCG, we believe that equipping gardeners with low-cost resources and knowledge is essential.

In 2022, our dedicated staff and volunteers cultivated over 167,000 vegetable and herb transplants, prepared 45,000 seed packets, and delivered 66 free educational workshops. With KCCG's support, our gardeners harvested an estimated 1. 2 million pounds of fruits and vegetables in 2022, worth over $3 million if purchased from a grocery store.
