About
Description
Libraries of Life is an exciting brand that offers augmented reality specimen cards as an innovative education and outreach tool. These cards aim to promote engagement and accessibility to biodiversity specimens that are typically hidden from public view in museums, universities, and other institutions across the United States. This project is a collaboration between the U.
S. National Science Foundation's National Resource for Advancing Digitization of Biodiversity Collections (iDigBio) and various Thematic Collections Networks. Their goal is to create digital, web-deployed information about the nation's biodiversity specimens for the benefit of science and society.
The development of the cards and app is led by the expertise of Arizona State University's Anne Basham and Florida State University's Austin Mast, along with other members of iDigBio's Augmented Reality for Public Outreach (ARPEO) Working Group. The Libraries of Life project has several objectives, including establishing standards for 3D repositories, redefining digitization practices, providing accessible AR content for diverse audiences, offering professional development for teachers, assessing learning impact, fostering institutional collaborations, and aligning with the goals of the Advancing Digitization of Biodiversity Collections (ADBC) community. The brand expresses its gratitude to the contributions made by the Idaho Natural History Museum and the team at the Idaho Virtualization Lab.
Overall, Libraries of Life is at the forefront of utilizing new technologies to enhance education and understanding of biodiversity
