About

Description

Literacy Volunteers of Illinois (LVI) has been supporting volunteer literacy in Illinois since 1979. As a leading organization within the national service movement, LVI offers a range of programs and services to promote literacy throughout the state. LVI was originally founded as a mid-level support system for Literacy Volunteers of America-affiliated programs, but has since evolved into a resource and training center for all literacy programs.

Their services include resource and referral, correctional education, public information and advocacy, new reader leadership, and national service. Speaking of national service, LVI has engaged over 1,000 national service members through various federal and state AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps*VISTA programs. These programs have been implemented in adult literacy, family literacy, and Head Start programs throughout Illinois.

Some examples of these national service programs include the VISTA Literacy Corps, Project UPLIFT, Project I-CARE, and Project HEART. Be a part of LVI's mission by joining as a volunteer or donating to support their efforts in improving literacy in Illinois
