Marlboro College, founded in 1946, was a liberal arts college that empowered students to shape their educational journey. Operating on a community-governance model, Marlboro fostered a collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment where faculty and students engaged as peers. With classes limited to a few students, Marlboro offered a personalized and high-quality education experience.

In 2020, Marlboro College joined forces with Emerson College, giving rise to the Marlboro Institute for Liberal Arts and Interdisciplinary Studies in Boston. This alliance continues Marlboro's legacy through an innovative self-designed interdisciplinary major (IDS) grounded in the liberal arts. Students have the freedom to explore their academic passions and culminate their studies with a substantial capstone project.

The ethos of community and academic excellence instilled by Marlboro's 70 years in Vermont lives on at the Marlboro Institute, fostering a dynamic and collaborative learning environment
