The Memphis Library Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization established in 1994, initially known as the Foundation for the Library. Its dedicated mission is to enhance the 18 Memphis Public Libraries by securing funding through grants and private support. These libraries serve as neighborhood anchors, providing resources and services that go beyond books, such as job and housing opportunities, technology resources, and educational programming.

Led by Executive Director Christine M. Weinreich, J. D., the foundation recognizes the importance of private donations from individuals and corporations in sustaining their programs and services.

Without this vital support, library programming would not be possible. The foundation has already raised approximately $30 million through grants and private contributions to support the 18 library branches, outreach initiatives, and online offerings. They are committed to making a difference in their community by transforming lives and ensuring equal access to knowledge and opportunities.
