About

Description

Multicultural Family Resource Society (MFRS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the well-being of immigrant and refugee children, youth, and families. With a commitment to family-driven and participatory programming, MFRS aims to provide equitable access to opportunities, programs, and resources for immigrant and refugee families. Their programs offer a safe and inclusive space for participants to belong, voice their concerns, and share hopes and dreams.

MFRS understands the challenges faced by individuals with limited English language skills and cultural barriers, and strives to address these barriers by providing information, resources, knowledge, and skills. By fostering a supportive environment, participants are empowered to overcome challenges together. Founded in 2005, MFRS has worked closely with the Multicultural Health Brokers to build an intercultural support community.

Their vision is to empower immigrant and refugee families through knowledge, skills, and connections, ultimately achieving optimal health and well-being. MFRS offers culturally responsive and participant-driven programs and services that reduce social isolation, enhance knowledge and skills, increase access to community supports, and encourage health and well-being. They also work to reduce poverty and empower families to confidently navigate multiple cultures.

MFRS has achieved notable milestones, including providing holistic family cultural brokering support to 1795 Syrian refugees, hosting the annual Multicultural Celebration event with 700+ participants, and supporting over 20 festive celebrations for newcomers. They have also implemented new strategies to discuss sexual health and violence in ethnocultural communities and enhanced their programming based on growing participation. To support their important work, you can donate to MFRS and join their mailing list to stay updated on their initiatives.
