Welcome to the Museum of Us! Our brand is dedicated to decolonizing initiatives, inspired by the groundbreaking work of Ho-Chunk Scholar Dr. Amy Lonetree. We aim to acknowledge and redress the colonial history and practices that have shaped museums like ours.

At the Museum of Us, we are committed to truth-telling, accountability, and reconciliation. We recognize that the objects in our collection have often come to us through inequitable and colonial pathways. We are actively working to rethink ownership by ensuring that cultural objects and ancestral human remains are held with the consent and in collaboration with their associated communities.

We have implemented policies to support this shift, including the Curation of Human Remains Policy and the Colonial Pathways Policy. We prioritize Indigenous representation and voices, striving to integrate Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) in all levels of decision-making. As part of our ongoing decolonizing initiatives, we are revisiting and updating past exhibits to prioritize community consent, anti-racism, and decolonization.
