Description
The National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) is a trusted not-for-profit corporation dedicated to enhancing provider quality and promoting patient safety in the field of nurse anesthesia. Serving as the nation's official certifying body, NBCRNA ensures that over 59,000 Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) possess the necessary knowledge and skills to practice safely and effectively. Through their comprehensive credentialing programs, NBCRNA supports lifelong learning among nurse anesthetists, providing initial, continued, and subspecialty certification.
CRNAs, who are the sole anesthesia providers in most rural hospitals and the main providers for the U. S. Armed Forces, work in diverse healthcare settings across the United States.
The NBCRNA is governed by a prestigious Board of Directors consisting of certified registered nurse anesthetists, a board-certified surgeon and anesthesiologist, and a representative of the public. With a rich history dating back to 1975, NBCRNA has established rigorous national certification examinations and pioneered computerized adaptive testing technology. In 2007, it became an independent organization and launched the Continued Professional Certification (CPC) Program in 2016, ensuring ongoing competency and knowledge for CRNAs.
