About
Description
The NFLPA, or National Football League Players Association, is the union that represents professional football players in the NFL. Established in 1956, the NFLPA plays a crucial role in protecting the rights, health, and families of the players. The union ensures that players' interests are represented during negotiations for the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and keeps them informed and prepared for these negotiations.
The union has achieved significant victories, including negotiating landmark CBAs in 2011 and 2020. The NFLPA's responsibilities include representing players in matters concerning wages, working conditions, and hours, and ensuring that the terms of the CBA are met. They also negotiate and monitor retirement and insurance benefits, provide member services and activities, assist charitable organizations, and enhance the image of players on and off the field.
The NFLPA operates in a bottom-up approach, with power and authority stemming from the elected Board of Reps, who are player members. The Board of Reps makes important decisions for the organization.
