About

Description

The Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County (NHMLAC) consist of three exceptional museums: the Natural History Museum, the La Brea Tar Pits, and the William S. Hart Museum. With over 35 million specimens and artifacts, NHMLAC houses the largest natural and cultural history collection in the western United States.

The Natural History Museum, one of the oldest cultural institutions in L. A., showcases extraordinary exhibits such as the Age of Mammals, the Dinosaur Hall, the Gem and Mineral Hall, and captivating dioramas. It also explores the relationship between nature and culture in Los Angeles and beyond through exhibits like Becoming Los Angeles, the outdoor Nature Gardens, and the Nature Lab.

At the La Brea Tar Pits, you can witness the only active urban fossil dig site in the world, where plants and animals from the past 50,000 years continue to be discovered. The William S. Hart Museum offers visitors a glimpse into the wild and wonderful world of the Hollywood cowboy, showcasing his 22-room mansion, ranch, and unique belongings.

NHMLAC is committed to inspiring responsibility for the natural world and building an inclusive, welcoming institution that represents the diversity of Los Angeles County. Visit NHMLAC to explore the rich natural and cultural heritage of Los Angeles
