About
Description
Nidan India is a brand that focuses on empowering and improving the lives of informal sector workers in India. With over 340 million workers in the informal sector, Nidan India recognizes the importance of this segment in the country's economy. Despite their significant contribution, these workers often face poverty and exploitation.
Nidan India works towards building organizations and profitable businesses for informal sector workers such as rag pickers, street vendors, domestic helpers, agriculture workers, and farmers. By leveraging the numerical strength of these workers, Nidan India creates economies of scale and generates social capital and representation for them. This enables the workers to launch their own businesses and compete in the market.
Seeking to create a voice for the poor, Nidan India brings together around 400,000 workers from the informal sector and facilitates their integration into profession-based groups. These groups help the workers connect with each other and address the challenges they face in their respective occupations. Nidan India's decentralized approach allows each organization to grow independently, with stakeholders taking charge of growth and operations.
Through this model, Nidan has achieved significant policy shifts, such as the passage of the Act for Urban Vendors, thanks to the efforts of the National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI), an initiative initiated by Nidan India. The impact of Nidan India's work is evident, with informal workers reporting income growths of 100% or more. The improved income has led to enhanced access to social security, education, childcare, and legal aid.
Additionally, Nidan India promotes transparency and collective action, ensuring that contracts with the government are secured without bribery and at competitive rates. Nidan India's commitment to accountability and honest enterprise is transforming underdeveloped states and the lives of informal workers. Their efforts have instilled confidence in the poorest sections of society and restored faith in transparency and collective action.
With their headquarters in Patna and an office in Delhi, Nidan India continues to empower informal sector workers and uplift their communities, creating a more inclusive and just society
