The National Lawyers Guild (NLG) is an association of progressive lawyers and jurists founded in 1937. Their mission is to prioritize human rights over property rights and advocate for social justice within the legal system. NLG-SFBA, the San Francisco chapter, has been at the forefront of defending the rights of protesters and providing legal support since 1969.

They assist demonstrators in navigating the legal system and have provided mass defense for various movements, including anti-war protests, civil rights activists, ethnic studies advocates, and more. NLG-SFBA is a multi-issue organization that supports causes such as prison and police abolition, migrant justice, labor rights, and environmental justice, among others. Comprising lawyers, legal workers, activists, and students, their membership remains committed to uplift human rights and serve communities in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.
