About
Description
OpenOakland is a dynamic Code for America Brigade located in Oakland, California. Our mission is to bridge the gap between technology and the community, creating a thriving and equitable city. We achieve this through meaningful relationships, inspiring civic engagement, and empowering Oaklanders.
By partnering with the city and the community, we foster a more inclusive, equitable, and engaged Oakland. We co-create tools and events that educate Oaklanders on how the city works and inspire them to effect civic change. Additionally, we recognize Oakland's rich history of activism and seek to empower all Oaklanders to advocate for our community's collective well-being.
As part of the Code for America network, we are a fiscally-sponsored project dedicated to improving government in meaningful ways. Donations to OpenOakland are tax-deductible through Code for America. Our brigade membership is open to all, regardless of expertise or skill level.
We work collaboratively and strive to ensure that those most impacted by our work are included in the decision-making process. We are currently revisiting our governance structure to make participation easier, more effective, and more inclusive. Join us at Hack Night every Tuesday from 6:30-9:00 pm PST on Zoom, where we work on our projects and welcome new members.
You can also join us on Slack and introduce yourself in #oo-meet-and-greet. We look forward to meeting you and working together to make a positive impact in Oakland
