About

Description

PhillyCAM is a non-profit organization designated by the City of Philadelphia to operate its public access television network. With a landmark achievement in 2009, PhillyCAM started cablecasting on Comcast 66/966HD/967 and Verizon 29/30 after 27 years of fighting to establish public access television in the city. Public access is a system on cable television that provides individuals with access to equipment and training to create and broadcast their own non-commercial programs.

It allows people to publicize their activities and share their message without having to purchase airtime. PhillyCAM serves as an electronic park, offering an open platform for individuals and communities to express their views and share information on various topics, including arts and culture, sports, cooking, religion, education, local issues, national news, and health concerns. In addition to television programming, PhillyCAM also offers workshops, internships, and community reporting opportunities to encourage community involvement.

By allowing people from diverse backgrounds to connect and share their perspectives, PhillyCAM plays a vital role in fostering media literacy and democratic engagement in Philadelphia
