About
Description
Salish Sea Guillemot Network (SSGN) is a collective of organizations dedicated to studying and protecting the Pigeon Guillemot, a fascinating seabird species. Initiated on Whidbey Island in 2004, the breeding survey has expanded to seven different areas across the Salish Sea, involving approximately 150 volunteers. The survey, which takes place from June to August during the breeding season, aims to gather valuable data on the Pigeon Guillemot population.
This data is used to better understand the species, its habitat, and its conservation needs. The network collaborates with organizations such as the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Quantitative Conservation Lab at the University of Washington. If you're passionate about birds and conservation, you can get involved by contacting the survey leads in your nearest area or visiting their website for more information.
The SSGN welcomes volunteers and encourages citizen scientists to contribute to their important research efforts. For any inquiries or to share your sightings, you can reach out to the Guillemot Research Group via email. They are always eager to hear from the community and appreciate the support in their mission to protect the Pigeon Guillemot
