Ploughshares Nursery is a Social Enterprise of the Alameda Point Collaborative supportive housing community. Not only do they offer a wide range of products that protect the environment, but 100% of their sales go towards supporting housing for formerly homeless families. They are dedicated to advancing their local community and the planet in several ways.

In addition to selling eco-friendly products and using recycled materials whenever possible, Ploughshares Nursery also provides job training and employment opportunities for residents of the supportive housing community. This not only empowers individuals but also strengthens the community as a whole. One of the highlights of Ploughshares Nursery is their free hands-on workshops throughout the year.

They cover various topics such as year-round vegetable gardening, drip irrigation, pruning, composting, native plants, and much more. They even host speakers who share their knowledge on subjects like tool sharpening and permaculture. To make it convenient for visitors, the nursery is located just a short walk from the Alameda – Main St Terminal.

They also encourage reducing carbon footprints by carpooling or utilizing public transportation. Excitingly, Ploughshares Nursery is currently building a new structure that will not only showcase their products but also provide classroom space for workshops and similar organizations. This sustainable building will feature straw bale walls, a living roof, gray water recycle system, solar power, and recycled building materials.
