Prevention Institute (PI) is a national nonprofit organization with offices in Oakland, Los Angeles, Houston, and Washington, D. C. Their mission is to incorporate prevention and health equity into important policies and actions at the federal, state, local, and organizational levels.

Their goal is to foster health, safety, and wellbeing in the places where people live, work, play, and learn. Since 1997, PI has partnered with communities, foundations, local government entities, and public health agencies, using cutting-edge research and strategies to address pressing health and safety concerns. Their work spans various areas, including injury and violence prevention, healthy eating and active living, land use, health systems transformation, and mental health and wellbeing.

PI believes that health is not merely the absence of illness and injury but encompasses physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing. They aim to achieve health equity by reversing policies and practices that distribute resources unevenly across communities and creating equal opportunities for all communities to be healthy.
