About
Description
Project Scientist is a brand dedicated to igniting and cultivating STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) confidence in marginalized and underserved girls. They provide high-quality experiences and access to education that expands professional opportunities and awareness. Project Scientist prepares girls for a STEM confident future through various initiatives.
They create introductions to professional women in the field, organize expeditions to top STEM employers and universities, and deliver hands-on activities led by credentialed and Project Scientist certified teachers. Their vision is to create a future where girls and women have equal access to pursue their STEM education, careers, and leadership aspirations. They aim to achieve this by serving 500,000 under-resourced and marginalized girls, training 5,000 elementary teachers in gender and racial equity teaching strategies, engaging 4,000 STEM professionals as role models and advocates, and partnering with leading companies and universities to create high-quality content and experiences.
Project Scientist began in 2011 with the goal of increasing diversity in STEM fields by inspiring girls. They have grown to serve 20,000 girls across 26 states. Their approach is based on the latest research on what drives and sustains girls' interest in STEM subjects.
As an organization, Project Scientist is committed to fully incorporating their manifesto, which prioritizes the inclusion of women and girls in STEM, challenges the status quo, and aims to build a STEM ecosystem that rejects complacency. They offer a focused STEAM pathway that supports girls and women of all ages in their STEAM interests and passions. From the STEAM Lab and STEAM Club for ages 4 to 12, to the Scholars program for ages 13 to 15, and the Alumni program for ages 4 to 35, Project Scientist is dedicated to advancing girls along their STEAM journey.
Diversity is at the core of Project Scientist's mission. They are intentional in driving diversity in STEAM careers by gender, race, and ethnicity, and serve under-resourced households, with 80% of their participants identifying as Black, Latina, Asian, American Indian, or Native Hawaiian. They are also committed to serving any child regardless of gender identity or expression.
