About
Description
QTZfest is an annual small works festival that celebrates the creations of queer, trans, and gender non-conforming artists. Based in Providence, RI, the festival is committed to creating a space that reduces barriers to access for queer artists. They never charge a tabling fee and offer stipends to all applicants expressing need, as well as providing free meals on the day of the event.
The goal of QTZfest is to showcase artists who may not have access to art book fairs and zine festivals, particularly those who lack resources to navigate formal arts institutions. As a curated zinefest, they prioritize featuring artists whose identities intersect with various marginalizations. This includes class, disability, gender, race, and experiences of violence/trauma.
The festival aims to center queer and trans people of color while continuously curating a diverse roster of exhibitors. The definition of a zine is broad, encompassing a range of mediums such as poetry, comics, ceramics, apparel, and more. As participants and attendees of the festival, a collective responsibility is emphasized in promoting respectful conduct and addressing any issues that arise.
QTZfest also acknowledges the support they have received from organizations such as Binch Press/Queer. Archive. Work, and they provide the opportunity for donations to further support their cause
