Founded in 2013 by Peregrine Church, a 20-year-old creator of novelty, Rainworks started as a creative project inspired by super-hydrophobic coatings. These coatings have the remarkable ability to repel water and keep surfaces dry.

Peregrine's ingenious idea was to use this technology to create hidden messages that only appear on rainy days. After receiving a grant from The Awesome Foundation, Peregrine experimented with various super-hydrophobic coatings and overcame the initial challenge of visibility on dry concrete. With the help of a chemical manufacturer from Belgium, Rainworks developed a new coating that remained invisible even when dry.

Thus, the first rainwork was born. Peregrine, along with his best friend, Xack Fischer, embarked on a mission to bring smiles to people's faces on rainy days by decorating the streets of Seattle with secret messages. These rainworks, a combination of rain and artwork, were created stealthily in the dead of night.

As the project gained attention, a video went viral, capturing the imagination of millions worldwide. Responding to the overwhelming demand, Rainworks launched the Rainworks Invisible Spray, allowing creative individuals from all over the world to make their own rainworks. The Official Rainwork Map now showcases over 200 rainworks from contributors across five continents.

Additionally, a mobile app was launched to make it easier to find and share rainworks. Rainworks has successfully transformed what may be perceived as gloomy weather into an opportunity for creativity, spreading joy and excitement to communities globally.
