About
Description
The Sheldon Foundation is a philanthropic organization established in 1948 by Isabella Marvin Sheldon in memory of her husband, Ralph C. Sheldon, a renowned businessman from Jamestown, New York. The foundation continues the legacy of philanthropy launched by Isabella as it aims to make a positive impact on the community.
The Sheldon family's wealth was built through the entrepreneurial endeavors of Ralph and his father, Porter Sheldon. They co-founded The American Aristotype Company, a successful photographic paper manufacturer in the late 19th century. After selling the company to Eastman Kodak, the Sheldon family invested their proceeds wisely, which resulted in significant financial growth.
Today, the Sheldon Foundation annually grants over $2 million to more than 45 different organizations in Southern Chautauqua County that focus on healthcare, education, scientific achievement, culture, arts, and humanities. By upholding values such as community-building, equity, and integrity, the foundation works tirelessly to nurture those in need and promote the betterment of society
