Run by World Rugby, the governing body of the sport, the tournament not only showcases thrilling matches but also provides vital support to the global game. Originally known as the Rugby World Cup and Women's Rugby World Cup, we have now adopted the gender-neutral name of Rugby World Cup to ensure inclusivity.

Since our inaugural tournament in 1987, hosted by Australia and New Zealand, we have grown in both size and popularity. In 2019, we made history by venturing to Japan for the first time. Next, we look forward to France from 8 September-28 October 2023.

We are not just limited to men's rugby, as we also organize Rugby World Cup 2021, where the finest women's players will battle it out in New Zealand. Initially planned for 2021, it has been rescheduled to 2022 and will feature 12 teams in 26 matches across 35 days.
